Barnet home
As said above I thought we played pretty well and the game turned on those two pens. I was right on top of them, and the first one looked like a stonewaller albeit a rash challenge but the second one was a joke. The bloke basically air kicked and tripped himself over but the ref couldn't wait to give it. Then EJ uncharacteristically throws one in for the winner. I agree it's very frustrating we cannot manage games out but a few mitigating factors at play yesterday.

The solution is being proactive about protecting and/or extending them. If you want to see a stat, I’d say pull together a breakdown of substitutions made by us when we’re ahead vs when we have thrown the game away. We only decide to change our approach to any match once it is too late.AVincelotFlyingLeap wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 10:36 am What is the solution to losing all these leads ? Is it tactics ? Motivation ? Energy ? It’s so annoying, I want to do the stats to see how we compare to the rest of the league

We played well? What game were people watching, we got dominated from start to finish and were fairly fortunate we didn’t lose by more goals, as Mick Payne said in the bar ‘we were in the game but their keeper bar the EJ header save at the end did not have a save to make all game’.
The call for Ben to go is not based on yesterday it’s based on 5 wins in 18 games this season and goes back into last season as it’s now 11 wins in 39, manager and owners said play offs before the season but we’re now closer to relegation, change required or will we drag our heels yet again as per Taylor and McMahon who both had several months too many.

One of the starkest things for me yesterday was the contrast in apparent fitness and clarity of game plan between the two sides. From start to finish Barnet played with a much higher intensity and speed, both with and without possession, whilst we looked very laboured. Their game plan was pretty clear too by constantly spreading the play wide at pace and attacking the wings - what was ours?
So disappointed with letting a 3-1 lead get away from us, although we were never in control of the game I felt we were capable of getting the result but a dodgy penalty and uncharacteristic error from Justham had me thinking that despite Ben being perhaps the most popular manager we’ve had for quite a while we are just lacking a bit of nouse when it comes to protecting a lead and seeing a game out, for a while yesterday we chased and harassed them and forced them into making mistakes but suddenly we stood off and the inevitable happened. Perhaps time for a change but it pains me saying that!

That is really annoying. I too thought the 2nd penalty wasn't a penalty - the player seemed to drop to the floor with no one touching him. I was waiting for the highlights before passing comment, and the non-availability of the footage seems suspect.
I can get that we lost, but the manner in which we lost, especially as our call for a penalty was denied, feels like the ref was their 12th man.
People do see things differently of course and that can be influenced by one's general view of things. And It's certainly not good enough that win ratio.Diggerthedog wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 1:02 pm We played well? I don't buy that we were dominated from start to finish. Had that game ended a draw no-one on either side would have batted an eyelid. Barnet definitely played the brighter football and had better spells for sure, but they got a massive helping hand with the second pen and yes after that they certainly could have won by more, but that was the turning point.
Anyway no point raking over it, we lost.
