He WAS Dagenham and Redbridge. I am looking to see if I can turn the forum black for a week.
The man who stood with supporters because he was a supporter (e.g. Aldershot away).
The man who joined the protest against Tamplin.
So much more I could write but a bit of my heart has broken today.
Condolences to his family, friends and everyone who knew him. A true Daggers Legend.

Absolutely gutted, great great man. Was at the helm of the club’s best period, fans loved him. So very sad. R.I.P Dave.

Very sad news. A great football man and a true supporter of the club, prepared to put his own money in to keep us competitive for so many years.
Perhaps his biggest achievement was pulling together both sets of fans after the toxic merger of 1992. Despite being vilified by most Dagenham fans for instigating the deal, he stuck by his vision and by the end of the first season had won over all of the fans because he was charming, engaging and prepared to patiently listen to anyone who had an opinion.
For what it’s worth now, I feel that the club lost its way from the moment that he stepped down as chairman. I think that he would be pleased that we finally seem to be heading in the right direction now. I hope that wherever he is, he will be having a beer or three with big Del Almond right now.
RIP Big Dave.
