Our fans – particularly away from home are in the main fantastic, from the games I’ve ever been too.
Charlton on Tuesday was no exception – singing loudly for the entire 90 minutes. The conga was fantastic and their stewards didn’t have a clue what on earth to do. Some of the chants about ex players was bang on, pretending to score & win the league and even the fat Eddie Murphy jibe about their steward. Again, bang on.
What I REALLY have a problem with though is this seemingly obsession with 1) Southend 2) Phil Brown and 3) and more importantly Paedophiles.
Chants in poor taste are part & parcel of football but Paedophiles …. Constantly ….. is just un-necessary and I just don’t ‘get’ what is found funny about it.
Whether you love or hate Phil Brown, Arsene Wenger or whoever – it’s still some-one’s son, dad etc. and just out-rightly calling them a paedo is too much and too far IMO.
Maybe I’m getting miserable in my old age but I just wanted to put this one out there.
Here's to a good game and result tomorrow!!

lets face it we have been shit for 4 or 5 years now and if we all took this serious we would all be sitting in padded cells.
If you don't like the chants think some more up and start them off instead of having a go at people trying to create an atmosphere. I swear some people would be happy with us playing in silence back in the Ryman.

I'll admit the lose every week chant, did irk me a little, but in the fans defence, they gave great support at Pompey only to see us cave in and at Charlton on tuesday if it hadn't been for the crossbar it would have been 6-1. The game was done and dusted at 3-0, the team knew it and the fans knew it as well. There wasn't much for them to cheer at both matches so decided to entertain themselves. It'll be different against the O's, but the team need to produce something on the pitch for the fans to get behind them in the right way.Oxhead wrote:Singing songs such as " we lose every week" " same division as Dagenham " and crap like that are demeaning and boring. Yes, sing and enjoy yourselves but have a bit of pride in the club.
Whoever started the "That Jimmy Saville, he's musunderstood" chant at Pompey when the kids walked past is an outright c*nt of the highest order. And anyone who joined in is the worst kind of sheep about.
Chants about Phil Brown when we play Southend and Hearn when we play Orient I get. Singing about them at Pompey and Charlton shows a lack of imagination or originality.

I myself am loving the fact that the atmosphere has dramatically improved, really really pleased about it. I like to get involved and start some of the chants off myself. Let's face it some chants in football are harsh but that happens at all clubs, we are hardly one of the worst culprits for that. And if the game is poor we might as well have some fun rather sit/stand in silence. No one is perfect but I'm proud of the way our fans have started this season and I hope it continues.

Why did all our singing fans go and stand by the Orient supporters today? Strange.

Lets be honest, 17 or not Jodi Jones is our only player actively being sought after by much higher clubs.
How we think we can afford to leave him on the bench for the 1st hr of todays game is beyond me.

So your Friday Morning rant spills over to Sunday. Such is your incense you post your latest dig on a thread that appears to be about the behaviour of fans, very strange place to post such a view but I don't blame you for never missing a chance to express a view I know you hold dear.dagger4eva wrote:Lets be honest, 17 or not Jodi Jones is our only player actively being sought after by much higher clubs.

In response to your comment I have to say that I find the whole thing rather strange myself, i am at a loss to explain how Jones who has been the most positive player we had over the first two games suddenly finds himself benched,
It is even more strange when you hear his assistant tell us all pre match that we have to go and attack Orient and take the game to them.
It is even more stranger when you know your opponents are going to have close to half the support in the ground. The first thing I would have thought about doing was how we going to get our Fans rocking and quieten the noise that their opponents Supporters bring . That alone made the decision very puzzling as the one Person who is going to get those out of their seats or those standing on their toes and hopefully drum up the noise is young Jodi.
This is not the first decision I have questioned recently. To my mind leaving young Jodi out yesterday pales into insignificant with the decision to dispense with Luke Howell during the summer and I am not the only one scratching my head over that one. That few quid that we saved on him already looks a false economy as to my mind we did not only chuck out one of our most consistent players over the past four seasons but we also lost a potential Captain and leader something that to my mind we are clearly lacking.
Other then Young Jack Connors the longest serving Player in our squad yesterday has played at this Club for a year, that says it all to me I am afraid.
When was the last time we started a season without with what amounts to a phrase we have all used to describe a player " A True Dagger"
Last season it was touched upon by a number of fans about the Club losing its soul, sadly I am fast becoming a Member of this camp. There appears very little positive vibes around at the moment and I got that dreaded feeling come over me the minute the first goal went in yesterday.
Last season I was always confident that we would get out of it because we had Players like Abu, Luke, Billy and Scott who you would always put in the category as "True Daggers" . At the moment I don't think we have anybody other then JC and possibly Mark Cousins that I would even consider bestowing the biggest honour us fans can give a player and it is clearly showing.
We stood together yesterday mate like we have on many occasions but in all honesty we both knew as soon as that first goal went in that was that and we would not be getting anything from the game.
Always felt this was going to be our most difficult seasons since we returned from League one and if you ask me now I am even more fearful of the situation. We look a team that is so easy to beat at the moment ,the midfield is totally non existent from where I am looking and has been walked past in the three games played. Lets be honest we would all give our right arm for Abu , Luke or Billy to be in there yesterday scrapping away with the "True Dagger spirit" and that to me is something that is clearly missing,
A good post Sussex but I still think it's a little early to be getting worried. This true Dagger stuff rings true to an extent but let's not forget that our 'true Daggers' had us 2nd bottom around Christmas time last season.SUSSEX DAGGER wrote:So your Friday Morning rant spills over to Sunday. I feel that this is going to be a stick to poke the new players with whenever we have a bad result or few. They can't do anything about the fact that they are new players. The actual fact is that we are still building our squad at the moment. Not all the pieces are there and the transitions/consistency aren't there either. We kicked off last season with a 3-0 defeat to Morecambe, the back 5 were O'Brien, Connors, Doe, Saah, Batt. Porter and Goldberg also came on as subs that day. Come the end of the season and only Doe remained ever present whilst the likes of Ayo, Widdowson and Jakubiak had been added to the squad as mainstays.
I have little doubt we will explore the loan markets as usual and will probably find 1-2 that end up being good additions for a chunk of the season as ever. Wayne knows what it takes to stay in this league now and I'm confident he'll get it right. It will take a while to click as although we haven't made a load of signings, we have completely changed two crucial areas of the squad (CB and CM). I'm confident that Dikamona and Nosworthy will get it right. They have the attributes to do so. We do need 1-2 more bodies to compete for the CM areas. At present ideally I'd go in with Boucaud and Richards with Raymond playing a little in front.
It's still early and I'm glad in a way we've got two hard games out of the way. Hopefully we'll be right for when some of the key battles at the other end of the league come up. We'll be mid table, I'm confident.

As always Lee you take a deep perspective view and think things out which always make your views interesting.
Wish to make it clear that I steadfastly beleive the current squad are trying as hard as possible and I think there may be a number of reasons why we have appeared to be treading treacle. So the True Dagger is probably a bit easy to dish out when things are not going well.
The fact we did not fill the bench at Portsmouth and made use of only one Sub and clearly had a Player who was injured playing makes you ask the question how depleted were we .
Like you appear to be I am excited by Frankie Raymond ,his full debut at Newport on a very hot day was most eye catching , I loved his work rate that day when for a period just after half time we had our backs against the wall. He stood up to be counted did not hide away and was always offering himself. His performance became even more creditable as we had lost the Player who I think we are missing the most to an injury.
We also have Labadie who will also if you pardon the pun will add a bit of much needed bite into the midfield when he is free of his ban, so there may be any number of permutations to the midfield that may bring out the best in Players who at the moment look a bit lost, you never know just the right Player to go into a position were we are clearly struggling could change things just as Ayo did last season.
All we can do is keep trying ,hopefully Tuesday night we will see a big improvement both on and off the field as we finally have something to cheer.
