We'll I was called deluded when I said we would finish 15/16th.
But am I dreaming that a win next week and we finish at least 12th . With Northampton playing Southend and Wycombe playing Morecambe we could even finish 10th.
No doubt if we do it there will be those that want to crab it again as some sort of fluke I have no doubt but a potential average finish of 9.5 over two seasons can not be a fluke.
Whatever happens how good is it to finish the season asking what could have been acheived against what was not achieved.
We'll done Wayne the Squad and everybody involved at the Club ,you have all got off the floor and made most of us proud to be Daggers
Who would have thought it

Fair play to you Sussex. Even more optimistic than me when I predicted 17th/18th when you predicted yours. About a month later I predicted 15th but nowhere near as early as you did.SUSSEX DAGGER wrote:We'll I was called deluded when I said we would finish 15/16th.

Burnett came good in the end but as you've asked for yourself, should of been sacked after Stevenage Boxing Day and southport away. Fair play though about the prediction

We'll whatever happens next week ,I think that both teams will want to put on a show,we can all look forward to an open game .
Absolute certain that a re-recruited Hoyte and a season of an Ayo type of Centre half we would never had got into the mess we did up until Christmas. Will also put my head on the block now and suggest that if these two vital areas had been dealt with sooner our season could have been extended.
Said it before and say it again those points we are short tonight we had in our hands late in games this season. 3 at Burton 2 at Cheltenham 2 at Wycombe added to the late points given up against Newport , Exeter and Cambridge at home leaves me with a feeling of. Ahhhhhhhhhhh

If our home form was better first half of the season, we'd have been play-offs. Instead it was diabolical.SUSSEX DAGGER wrote:We'll whatever happens next week ,I think that both teams will want to put on a show,we can all look forward to an open game .

Coming forward we have one of the best attacking threats in the decision if we can re-sign JC (pretty confident we will) and get Jakubiak who I'd imagine will be released now Watford are up. Imagine this next season:
JC
Jakubiak
Doidge
Jones
Yusseff
Hines
Hemings
And one more decent finisher similar to JC

Think Stevenage at home was the darkest day of our season to be honest and was the point when we everybody had to have a good look at themselves. Even I who had followed the Manager over a cliff could notThe Romford Dagger wrote:Fair play to you Sussex. Even more optimistic than me when I predicted 17th/18th when you predicted yours. Defend that . Over the years I have seen some very poor efforts but that was something else. it was without doubt the most embarassing gutless and heartless performance I had ever seen from a Daggers team.
The night at Southport was a low point but to my mind we were a little bit hard done by in as much as everything went against us. if Somebody grabbed hold of my bollocks then I think I would have reacted in the way Luke How'll did. Add in a deflected shot that was not going in and a clumsy penalty and I put it down to just one of those things that made the Cup what it is.
The Stevenage game was a disgrace and is surely the half that Wayne referred to in a recent interview when he himself said that was the only time he questioned his players. From that moment onwards I don't think we could ever question the heart or desire of our players yes we got lucky against Southend and Bury but I think every point since we deserved and earnt.
Whatever our feelings about who said what and who did what the fact remains nobody could question the heart or desire of the team since that Boxing Day debacle.

I agree. The players have shown they give a damn and put 100% in which is all you can ask for. If you get outplayed but give everything, that's fine with me. What p1ssed me off was the games that are supposed to mean something to clubs (fans and players) like the Stevenage And Leyton orient (JPT game) because they're derbies yet the players don't show any guts or seem bothered.SUSSEX DAGGER wrote:Think Stevenage at home was the darkest day of our season to be honest and was the point when we everybody had to have a good look at themselves. I will admit I went crazy after that orient game despite many replying 'who cares, it's the JPT'. It was the fact it was a London derby and the players didn't show any Dagenham passion that they have shown in the last 4 months.
Since Boxing Day, the team have looked like a Dagenham team that come out and give everything, sieve making bit of noise and ultimately the players show the same passion of the fans. That's what it's about really
Fair play to you, if I'm honest I'm shocked that we didn't go down this season. At the mid way point we looked awful, but the results have picked up. I still don't like Wayne Burnett and I'm not happy about him being in charge (although I'm possibly in the minority with that view at the moment). However whilist things are going ok, there's no point moaning too much.SUSSEX DAGGER wrote:We'll I was called deluded when I said we would finish 15/16th.

It always looked so obvious to me that our defence was being pulled all over the place because the full backs were not good enough, I did not like the look of Widowson on his debut at Plymouth as he looked another one who was short of pace but credit to the lad I think he has proved to be the most improved player of the lot.
Plymouth also highlighted Batts deficiencies, that was a game we were we'll in for half hour then all of a sudden they brake out and Batt is nearer to their corner flag then ours. So many times he got in that position and we played a big price.
It cant be a coincidence that with Abu restored to right back and Widowson improving game on game results improved . Although I am not a big fan of Partridge who I think will prove to be a adequate Centre Half in time Gayle has looked a bit more like it the last two games with the better full backs.

I actually thought partridge was good at the start of the seasons before he was dropped. Gaulle is like a new player from when he was last in the side. Best 2 home games for us have come in a row. He's looked more mature and more like a leader. Future captain?

That it turned out we were safe nearly two months ago.
In all honesty think I saw one of the sides destined for the drop when we beat Cheltenham at home. Really surprised that Tranmere ended up going down because we have played Them,Mansfield, Carlisle, York and Hartlepool in the last three months and they looked the best of that lot,

I think the board deserve some credit. Perhaps we don't have the money to sack a Management Team, but they could have done. Cheltenham & Tranmere did twice and it didn't help them.

The issue was Brian Saah primarily not the full backs. Once he was ditched suddenly the whole season turned around. One of my issues with the manager is that people in the crowd has been saying Saah was the problem for months, yet not only did Burnett keep playing him, he gave him the armband when Abu was out.SUSSEX DAGGER wrote:It always looked so obvious to me that our defence was being pulled all over the place because the full backs were not good enough, I did not like the look of Widowson on his debut at Plymouth as he looked another one who was short of pace but credit to the lad I think he has proved to be the most improved player of the lot.

The shining light here, is that even during the darkest point of the winter of discontent, we didn't get hammered!
In fact, it was usually down to our own mistakes that we lost!
If we can tighten that, keeping the backbone of the squad, and get Wayne noticing and acting on things himself, not after it's been moaned about for a month or two on here, we might just do alright next season!
