And we couldn't keep him.
Or if we could we've already spunked our budget on 10 midfielders some of which will never see the light of day and the rest will be warming their arse on a bench.
So well done on that one chaps, those contacts and years of experience in football are really paying off.

It has been said on here that he had been offered a good deal from us but he was pushing for a two year deal. As he is 33 years old who collapsed on the pitch only last season and also had injury problems it was not considered suitable to agree to his terms. He has not done very well at Braintree so far this season being often on the bench. If all this is fact it makes good financial sense the decision we took.

The deal he was offered was very fair for someone his age, a 1 year plus option based on appearances, very common at this level. He didn’t want to accept so we moved on, he’s now being offered about by Braintree wonder why that is and why he’s had more clubs than Tiger Woods, Southend play a high press game it won’t suit him at all, bizarre move if it comes off.
Yeah can’t see this as a mistake by us, still. We should only have kept him for the right contract which he didn’t want and it’s not in our interests to take him for 2 years. The reason this may feel frustrating is because our fancy new scouting team have managed to bring in 3 unfit strikers to try and replace him.

Southend have signed Macauley Bonne, so dont't know where that leaves any Effiong deal.

He is 5 years younger than Effiong and haven't paid a few for him, this said, the last couple of seasons hasn't scored many goals but young enough to he be a good signing with his pedigree.VIEW FROM THE STAND wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2024 9:21 pm Southend have signed Macauley Bonne, so dont't know where that leaves any Effiong deal.
Different worlds in terms of budgets but a 70% fit Bonne and the recent signing of KAP, as well as previously getting Josh Walker on board is a huge step up from our current crop of strikers and Chelsea-style squad of midfielders who we can't keep fit.
This is also bearing in mind that Harry Cardwell who left Southend went after his release clause was met, so they've made (one would assume) decent money on a player that looked pretty average against us.
Interested to see if we have a panic and suddenly come in for someone like Effiong now that the news of the Southend bid has come out? A loss or draw again tonight and it's not impossible that we drop to 20th or below in the table after almost ten games.

Josh Walker was a risk always an injury in him so similar to our strikers, Walker currently out injured.
I don’t want Effiong back, time we moved on from ex players, manager or people associated with the club as it just leads to more mediocre rubbbish, wipe the slate clean.
