FA Cup

If anyone ever needed any evidence of how far we have fallen.......on Saturday September 13 we will be playing in an FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round match for the first time since 1999.

We are playing Bedford Town from National North.
I believe that we stand a very good chance of losing for only the second time ever at this stage of the competition.

FYI - We have never lost in the 1st qualifying round of this competition and our only defeat in the 2nd qualifying round was at Chesham in 1994.

My thanks to the Football Club History Database - Dagenham & Redbridge for this cheery piece of information.

All the top clubs go out to focus on the league… We’ll be able to focus on relegation

Great stats ! This will be the earliest we've started (13th September) since 1995.

Last season perhaps the team concentrated too much on our great cup run and at the end of January were 16 points ahead of Boston United having just recently been beaten by Milwall in the third round.
We made a decent amount of money from the cup but ended up relegated.
Should we worry too much about the cup again?

We all know what happened then but I was just pointing out that if we lost to Bedford would it be a disaster as we could then concentrate on the league which is more our bread and butter.
In an ideal world you can do well in both competitions but we don’t want a repeat of last season and get relegated.

Crowd support for the club, out of the FA Cup before October and any kind of promotion race in the league, I think will take a massive hit as the winter months come in

Andy Carroll is back tomorrow so let's hope that he will strengthen our team and we can avoid your predictions.

Unfortunately the FA Cup media coverage has been fixated on non/lower league circus clubs in recent years. Wrexham, FGR, Salford for example. During the peak of their circus they would be televised in every round they appeared in.

Fortunately (somewhat) though, we are now that media circus club with Andy Carroll being here. So yes we should take the cup seriously as when the tv stations are picking games we will be one of the first names they look for. There’s a lot of money to be had in that and it’s money the club could do with.

Of course we should be bothered about the cup, any team that doesn’t want to win every game are just cheating themselves as well as the supporters.
Last season’s relegation had nothing to do with progression in the FA cup it was down to very poor decisions in the boardroom by idiots who thought giving the managers job to young was a good idea, then an even more stupid decision not to fire him with 6 games left as without that tosser we would still be in the national league.

Rumours are that Bedford have given the first team a week off as they want to give the reserves a run out next week!
Good news is we should only lose 4-0

On paper this is a dead even matchup. Both 21st in the table with 6 points on 8 matches. BTFC has a goal difference of -3 while we have a goal difference of -8.

Looking over the BTFC website I did not see anything related to audio commentary. If anyone finds anything please post.

Are there still replays in the fa cup qualifying rounds?

In the early rounds such as these there are still replays. I believe it is from the First Round proper that replays do not take place.
I think this was mainly brought in by the Premier League teams did not want more games.
It’s a great shame that the big boys with all their wealth just couldn’t take playing any more games and you have to feel really sorry for them don’t you with all their wealth and total disregard for smaller clubs!

Reminder that National League board backed that lobby by the Premier League, and also let them have their daft u21 cup. Think the Prem were meant to back 3up in exchange but they've probably forgotten that already.
