Because he wants paying well as per usual, you’d think at his age he would have earned enough not to put up silly wage demands. Go retire John as you can’t take your fortune with you.

I spoke to John at Tommy Horan’s funeral about him coming back, and he said ‘no one has asked me yet but never say never’.

The thing is, as much as John is a legend and I love him dearly, he has his own scouting team, so when he leaves, his whole network leaves and the club is left without. We have seen this happen repeatedly. Hopefully with Anwar’s connections the club can build its own scouting network that doesn’t fall apart if a key person moves on.

And if John wants to earn money, good luck to him. It’s an expensive old world out there.

When he left Southend recently the fans were not too upset as they thought his recruitment was disappointing. Having said that, it seems that John Still is
a man in demand so good luck to him.

Most of his scouts were older than him, guess the world moves on. Bromley got promoted with help from a guy who played football manager turned analytics for the club, you don’t need old dudes sitting in a stand anymore.

Interesting that they have also brought in Mark Cooper as manager. Looks a decent appointment

Fact is Still doesn’t do anymore what he used to do. How many non-league gems did he sign for Southend? As happens with almost every successful person in football, the game moves on and leaves you and your connections behind. I’m not too worried by him being there, he’ll spend a lot of their money on more George Marshes than Stan Leeches. Time to do the modern way of scouting.

When did Still leave them? Southend don't seem to be doing so badly at the moment. Trophy final and National League playoffs. Was he instrumental in bringing any of the current players in?

Is John doing this for money as he likes money and can never have enough? Or given his salary over the years his retirement is not all that great and he needs to work and he might as well do something he enjoys?

Or is this just him not wanting to sit and waste away in retirement and since he is working for a club that is paying wages to many he wants his share as well?

I am not sure if any on this board know the real answer so a bit of thinking out loud but am curious.
I am so tired of the heat and humidity of the summers in the southeastern USA.

I think John is doing it because he loves the football and he is lucky that clubs still want to pay him.

The late great legend that was Ted Hardy (RIP) only stopped scouting for us when his wife (RIP) became unwell and he didn’t want to leave her alone; he then became unwell too and unable to travel. He was in his late 80s when he stopped.
