So it appears the club are trying to lower the terms of the captains auto contract extension to save a few quid, in a year that would be his testimonial and the result is he will probably leave next month. Likely destination Southend, can’t blame him as he has a family to feed like the rest of us. Good start from the new board.
I heard this rumour yesterday and was hoping it was just bull$hit but it seems not, if Elliot does go it would be a catastrophic error by the club, his goalkeeping is worth at least 10 points a season and on top of that he’s the captain!
To try and change the terms of a contract is in itself wrong and sends the wrong signals to other players, god only knows what goes through these so called club officials… but then again Mr King might have another mate/client without a club in the background similar to Parsons!

The concept of a 'Director of Football' who has never played football has never sat well with me. The fact that he is also a players' agent 'may' be permissable but certainly isn't ethical when some of his clients are signed by the club that employ him. Ben's apparent lack of enthusiasm about the latest signing seemed palpable. Why would he want someone who is 25 hasn't played for months and who won't be able to till February. His CV doesn't exactly inspire either.
King's treatment - and it is King's idea allegedly- of Justham is as bizarre as it is wrong at a time of excitement over the cup run and improved form in the league.
There must be 'trouble at mill'.

Not sure how much of this is fact or not but it seems every so often it is suggested that Justham could be off to Southend seems to be raise it's ugly head. I hope this is not correct as he has been an excellent goalkeeper for us each and every season so would be a big loss for us if he was to depart.
Problem is that football agents are moral-less bottom feeders that are a scourge on the game. When you invite one into the club to run deals like this you are always going to see them do what they do best, which is stab people in the back for a few quid.
What’s being said about Justham is shameful, he deserves so much better from us. If this happens, I will not hold any ill feelings towards him even if he does go to those p***ys. But I will hold a lot of ill feeling to the club. There is no way back for King or Club Underdog if they do this.

All these rumours surrounding El are quite unseemly.
I suppose from the new owners perspective, they've inherited a wage bill that is probably not how they'd like it. El is rumoured to be our highest earner and as it stands we're carrying that into next season too. You'd have to say his form has been a little wobbly at times this season.
But if, as rumoured, they're trying to strongarm our captain and loyal servant of the club into accepting reduced terms then it's not a good look at all.

1) the owners have signed 16 players since the summer, either permanent, loans or dev squad by a quick count on my fingers. Plus all the contract renewals of the likes of Lawless. The wage bill isn’t inherited, they created it.Mark wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 5:07 pm

2) he may be our highest earner but he’s also been our best player for several years. He earns it because he’s earned it.
3) The whole teams form has been wobbly, need I remind you that we lost to Chertsey last week?
There is no way of spinning his departure as acceptable. Especially given the way that clown director is trying to treat him. Club is on its arse if this is how we’re going to do business and just act as people.

Is anyone able to direct me to where this information comes from? All I have seen on Twitter/X are comments he is being treated badly. What is the source?
If this is true, is there any suggestion we have a replacement set to come in? Strizovic, with the best will in the world doesn't save the season or help us pull off a shock at Millwall... Is there much of the season left already - in December - beyond the Cup match?

Worse i've seen Justham play for a long while, a few soft goals that he's let in that he'd normally keep out, maybe if this is going on behind the scenes it would explain it, surely can't keep a clear mind on the pitch when your future is uncertain off it?. Certainly don't want to lose him though and if he gets back to the form that got him player of the season for however many years in a row then would be brilliant (for either Daggers or Southend)

It's bad for us if he goes, but let's be honest... at the moment you wouldn't blame El for leaving also, I'm sure we can all agree that it's never acceptable to treat a player badly let alone your club captain and one of your best players!

Source is everyone knows about it now, Elliott had a clause that gave him another year after a certain amount of games and they’re trying to pay him off rather than have him about for another year. I guess the club deem it as not worth it in the long run but sprung this decision on the club captain without any notice, I think they’d hope he would find another club in Jan given the timing of it. All this in what would be his testimonial year.
The owners have come in like the last with lots of cheap talk about this and that but judging early days they think they’d hope can do this on a smaller budget, we will get relegated if that’s the case. On top of that we have an SD who was an agent but forgets that the people he has to deal with are his work colleagues now and can’t just tell them ‘that’s what you’re having’ needs to be a human side of it.
I go to games now as I have many friends around the club if it wasn’t for that I’d have jacked it in a while ago. All very tedious.

Pure speculation of course but might it be that all the senior players i.e. those not on King's 'books', whose contracts expire at the end of the season, have already been told they will not be extended and that Strevs is in the same boat. As I say pure hypothesis.
