Another Away Draw :
Chertsey Town - Sat 7th December 2024
FA Trophy
They did win the FA Vase around 5 years back and promotion to Premier South Division this term where 14 games in sit 10th so should not take these guys lightly I hope? Waterloo to Shepperton then a 557 bus alight in Heriot Road and a 5 minute walk to Alwyns Lane Football Ground, another new ground to many and no better start than that fine new Spoons at Waterloo early doors!
We played there twice in 1996/97 season in our first season after relegation to the Isthmian League. We beat Chertsey 3-0 in December then drew 0-0 with Staines who were sharing there in the February. Those appear to be the only times we've played there. From memory the entrance to the ground is in a narrow side road.

Good run then, owners need to wake up we’re sleep walking into a relegation dogfight.
I’ll be honest, I don’t really care about the FA Trophy. The idea of going to a barely half full Wembley with at best 10k Dagenham fans, and then the fans of 3 other clubs in one go has no appeal to me.
But what I do care about is how we are so inconsistent. There is no way on earth we should be losing that match. Just the same as how there was no excuse last year either. Strevs cannot take poorer opposition seriously, he cannot motivate the boys to win unless an FA Cup glamour tie is on the line or some TV cameras are present. That’s why we have thrown away so many matches from winning positions this season. As I have said all along, irrespective of the FA Cup run he has to be replaced ASAP.

It is a difficult balancing act for the manager, had he put out his strongest team and we had sustained a few serious injuries but won the game, there would have been lots of criticism saying as the league is our priority why had he done that. We already have Eastman, Ling, Lawless and Grego -Cox out injured would we want any more missing?
I would have loved another visit to Wembley and where we sit in the league at the moment seems unlikely to get into the football league but that is the number one priority for the club.

The attacking quartet minus Rees very much played like a second string. Still should've had enough to score a goal or two but it was followed the pattern of many away games this season where going behind proves fatal. The real concern was that a respectable back four kept getting done by balls over the top or in behind.
Don't think going out of this competition or consequently having a free first weekend of January are necessarily bad things in the bigger picture but it was a crap performance and embarrassing result.

Josh Umerah started and went off injured. So I’m not sure what balancing act Strevs has done there.len wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 12:10 pm It is a difficult balancing act for the manager, had he put out his strongest team and we had sustained a few serious injuries but won the game, there would have been lots of criticism saying as the league is our priority why had he done that. Ben can’t afford to balance anything, he is clinging on for dear life IMO. I can’t see us winning tomorrow and I fear for us going into some big games over Xmas and new years against fellow strugglers with us in such bad form, we either get sucked into a dogfight or stay clear of it, forget Millwall for now this is where our sorry lot need to be on it.

Today's score
Aldershot 8 Chertsey 0 .

Nothing like a full strength Aldershot side either... Those are the true levels between our league and Chertsey
