Westy is likely to play even fewer minutes than last season as he isn't getting any younger. We already leave him out when we play two games a week. Which is another reason why we needed another quality wing back.
Hare has played RCB before but ultimately he is a natural RB in a 4, a shape we never play. I'm not sure why we signed him given we already had Ling. That's not to say he's a bad player but you need to spend the budget sensibly.
Sagaf is a quality player but I understand why he wanted to play a more defensive player yesterday. Having said that, Rance will never be that player in a side that has ambitions of promotion. He's hard working but he is so limited. If he left us would any top 6 side even look at him? He'd be more likely to turn up at Maidstone.
Gateshead (H) in-game and post game thoughts
Unless McMahon abandons this 352 nonsense, we are going to fail again this season, simple as that.
Onariase getting some criticism on here. but didn't we play a back 4, when he was here last time ?.
We don't have any specialist wing backs in the building, so it does'nt and won't work.
The biggest joke of yesterday though was leaving Morais on the bench, he is clearly our most dangerous goal threat in the team, and he leaves him out !!.
What is this bloke doing who runs our team ?.

Said it on Facebook and will keep saying it... the starting XI against the West Ham youth side was awful... Sagaf, Longe King, Ling, Junior, Tavares improved the game massively... First half the West Ham youngsters gave us the defensive run around and we had nothing in midfield.
Exactly the same XI yesterday and no logic or reasoning to it when we had seen how it worked just a week before.
Anyone telling me that back 3 needs two, small full backs to complete one larger central player needs to go watch another team this season instead of us!
Got half way through the manager interview and couldn't finish it when the starting XI mistake was never once picked up and apologised for.
The ONLY issue last season that stopped a play off run was the defending and choice of players/ lack of purchases... Still so so angry this morning

It was painfully obvious to anybody watching this match that we are in desperate need of two decent full backs. Josh Hare was totally outplayed and Elliott Johnson was beaten every time any player took him on, being totally short of pace. Why of earth didn’t McMahon go for Wynter from Torquay, wanted to get back to London, ended up at Barnet. Agree about Manny being not even half the player he was when he left us.
God knows what they did in Portugal, must have got drunk every night. Certainly didn’t do any fitness training, the Gateshead players run absolute rings us in the first half and made us look like statues. God knows who picked Miles Weston for MOM, his Mum ? He looked for the best part of the match one season too many. We need some real explosive forwards with pace, unless McCallum has the ball within two feet of him it’s just a waste of time. Unless things change dramatically in the next few games l see this being the end of McMahon. Watching this match yesterday was really hard to take.

We don’t play full backs, Hare and Johnson are decent full backs but they’re played as centre backs we don’t need full backs we need two decent wing backs, Vilhete has been dreadful for a long time now and it took Robinson to show him how to put it on a plate for McCallum.Blue Hoops wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 4:28 pm It was painfully obvious to anybody watching this match that we are in desperate need of two decent full backs. I perplexed at some of the managers decisions and signings but really not surprised. If we’re not comfortably top 7 come October the owners have a decision to make as any later and we’re getting nowhere but I won’t hold my breath.
Shows how utterly clueless the full members who sponsored the game picking Weston as man of the match, proper football people they must be.

I overheard Match Sponsors trying to choose M.O.M and to be fair to them the first two choices of NO M.O.M or UNUSED subs were denied.
I heard them going through the team to see who made least mistakes because nobody really shone or stood out but many were off their game.
The choice was asked to be made before Junior came on and before the equaliser.
I suppose that is how the arrived at Myles.

This club really is going nowhere with Dithering Daryl.
The formation doesn't work - but instead of finding the players to then play the system, he continues to shoe horn players into positions that aren't seeing them at their best. It'll never work - its his job to lead the coaching team to find the best system to fit what he has. It's a dead horse Daryl, FFS stop flogging it.
It is only game 1, but it's the momentum to get going and stay going that will keep us in the playoff spots and beyond. There's a long way to go, but I don't see him being sacked with that lengthy contract. So long as we don't go down each year, he should be fine - I highly doubt there's anyone sniffing around him for a job now.
I wasn't impressed with the preseason fixtures - Orient, yes - but we aren't going to learn much against West Ham kids, Aveley or Concord. Most of those games are for the kids or the stiffs. I mean no disrespect to them - but they're not going to test you defensively as much as more established sides.
Should have been looking at more league one/two teams - but I suppose we didn't because it would highlight what the best part of 1500 fans see week in, week out.
I'll be at the Maidenhead game, but I'm not filled with the biggest amount of confidence about it at the moment.
Get back to 4-4-2 (or slight variation), two lumps at the back and Morais has to start. Back to basics, because even though a newly promoted team will be up for the opening day, we are a soft touch - and everyone in this league knows it.

Basics , does that include how to strike the ball from 12 yards when it's placed on a spot .DagenHammer87 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 11:40 pm This club really is going nowhere with Dithering Daryl.

How can you put any faith in a Coach to get the more difficult aspects of the game right when he can't even find a way to get that problem sorted. How many misses is that now over the past three seasons
I agree with most of the comments made about our line up on Saturday, after watching the highlights this evening I did notice that Elliot and Maura are not communicating with each other for the 2nd Gateshead goal, it looks to me that Maura is falling back to deep to become effective as he can be by attacking and creating further forward, also has anyone got any comments on the quality of the camera used for the games, I watch these games on an Apple computer which is HD quality along with a HD TV and both expose the poor quality of the games perhaps the camera equipment needs replacing, It may also improve the quality in America? The quality of the Gateshead camera is far superior to ours.

New season, same old systematic problems for Dagenham it seems. A characteristically woeful start - whereby they were two goals behind, had survived another two one-on-ones and missed a penalty inside merely half an hour - set the tone for an underwhelming opening day showing that would have resulted in defeat were it not for Junior Morias' last-gasp heroics.
