So the FL have rejected artificial pitches. How short sighted is that? The modern pitches are brilliant, a million miles from those that were at Luton and QPR and a couple of other grounds. The one at Robert Clack is FIFA approved (probably Blatter got 10% of the price or something) but is perfect.
Trouble is this all filters down. Conference clubs won't have them as they want to be eligible for promotion, so Conf South won't, so Ryman won'r... Meanwhile no one at the bottom of the game plays for two months a season due to pitches being unplayable.

Have seen the arguments for and against and have to agree Mike... very short sighted... quite ironic how we are making decisions that can see less football over the winter months just as FIFA announce a Summer World Cup in 7 years time will now be played in November and December.

It wouldn't make any difference if clubs had artificial pitches in the winter months as games would still get called off due to health and safety issues. It's no good having a perfect pitch if the football league deem the ground and surrounding areas unsafe for fans travelling to and from the ground. The matches would be called off regardless. There has been times recently when a pitch is playable but the stands etc haven't been seen as safe. Clubs wouldn't be able to guarentee safety and couldn't afford any claims made against them.
Personally I think it would be better if we did have as near to a grass surface as possible.

How many times are games off due to snow or ice, and how many times due to waterlogging? Boxing Day game few years back is last one I can think of.
Im sure it was because of the roads being slippy outside and in the car park.Didnt we all clear the pitch of snow and it was ok to play on ?Diggerthedog wrote:Boxing Day game few years back is last one I can think of.

Think we would have voted for it. We would have no excuses of having nowhere to train.
A tied vote only puts this on the back burner.
About time we stopped living in the past FA CUP, CHAMPIONS LEAGUE , UEFFA LEAGUE, WORLD CUP and EURO Championship all played on it yet a league two game at DAGENHAM can't be.

It was the pitch close to the touchline (Carling Stand side) that had icy patches deemed dangerous. I believe it was against Brighton as from memory I'm sure I see Gus Poyet on the pitch.

It was Northampton early January 2012.
Always remember the night the game was re-arranged in March twe lost 1 nil and everybody thought that was our lot .
We went back to the bottom of the League.
Always remember that game as unlike the majority's of the crowd who quietly left the ground without howling any abuse at the Manager or the Board I was confident we could get out of it as I had just seen Bauldry make his debut but also Luke Howell come back from injury. When he left the field at Hereford we were 4th in the League when he came back five months later we were second bottom. Luke only made about a dozen appearances that season and was subbed off next game with another injury but showed again what we had missed
Those two really did make a diffrence to our team in the last 10 games of that season Bauldry was John Stills Ayo ,without them the fate everybody appeared to accept that night may have become a reality.
