Young made permanent manager

Not sure what to make of this. Has spoken well and overseen an upturn in performance, but not really over a particularly large enough sample size, especially with two of the games being against relegation certainties and a Championship side in the Cup. Good luck to him.

I wish him well and I hope he succeeds but this stinks of a yes man cheapest option, were there seriously no better candidates for the job? Obviously there were but these new owners not interested in it.

Lewis comes across as a nice guy and obviously has a passion for the club, but so did Ben! Only time will tell if this appointment will be successful but I would have thought the sensible thing would have been a trial until the end of the season then make a decision then. But what do I know… I’m just a frustrated season ticket holder who thinks logically

I think we should all get behind Lewis and the team because we should all want him to succeed. As with all new managers they can only be judged after a decent enough of time in charge. The good thing is he knows the club inside out and should now be able to apply his own ideas on moving the club forward.
Best of luck Lewis.

Most of our previous managers have known the club inside out but all failed, this was a chance for the new owners to go out and get someone of their own but yet again it’s another lazy option on a crazy contract. It might work out and I wish him well but it’s a poor appointment looking at the bigger picture that shows zero ambition.

Thought this was a possibility.
Hope he gets to bring in some better players. The majority of the current crop ain't taking us up, whoever is in charge.

Made me laugh when I read on the official site that they had undergone an intensive interview process with a high-level shortlist. Call me an old cynic but I think that's a load of boll..ks.
This lot seem to have little or no ambition and Thommo wouldn't know a decent manager if he fell on him, as always it's a cheap and cheerful option.
Don't get me wrong I hope Lewis does well and I'll support him and the team as always, but personally I would have given him till the end of the season and seen where we go from there.
But this is Dagenham, happy to stay where they are and hope for the best, rather than show any ambition.

Terry Connor in as coach though. Super experienced, ex No.2 to Mick McCarthy.

There are some on here that think picking a successful new manager whether from within the club or outside is easy. Over the years we have had a few successful managers but these are far far outweighed by poor ones including an ex England manager. It seems the only occupation whereby you can be successful and then sacked at subsequent club or clubs and then still get jobs. There are very few managers that have never been sacked.
In Lewis Young’s case it does seem strange that he has been given a two and a half year contract from the outset and don’t really understand the logic behind that thinking but only time will tell if that was a good idea or not.

I think we can all agree that Lewis speaks very well about the club and what he wants. Even when we had assistant manager. It’s the sort of passion and drive we want to see in our players so hopefully it rubs off. But that being said, Strevs was also similar in that way and the players wouldn’t go for it, we do need more from Young. But if he can get the performances like Forest Green on a consistent basis then I think we’ll all be happy with him.
I’m not convinced on the contract length, I don’t know why we didn’t do until the end of the season with an option to extend. It seems the most logical option and that’s why any manager appointment isn’t going to excite me too much. The club has suffered from poor decision making off the pitch for years, and we’re still seeing it now. Unfortunately for Lewis I don’t think any manager can be successful here when the club keeps screwing things up.

Can we change the title of this thread to Young Out? What an awful appointment this is, 3 defeats on the spin and we’re spiraling into the abyss. Anyone that thinks we’re safe needs to have a reality check, 4 wins in 18 league games, 6 points ahead of the chasing pack. I stayed away from this game tonight as I knew what was coming, missed quite a few now despite having a season ticket, shame but blame the owners not the fans they’ve done this and it will only get worse, cheap cheap cheap. What a great squad James King has help assemble LOL. Clowns the lot of them, fold it.

Didn’t make sense when it happens don’t make sense now. Think it is clear young has an affection for the club but to hire an assistant to an underperforming manager as manager makes no sense sadly. Quality simply isn’t there at the moment. Hope dion is back soon.

My guess is that he had 2 1/2 years left on his deal, instead of sacking him with Strevs, they’ve bumped his wages up a few quid and promoted him. He’s got the job as he’s cheap, not because he deserves it.
