York City (Home)

Hess, Hill and Lawless all out injured for a few weeks at least which is a huge blow. We have signed Akinola as a midfield replacement so will have to see if he will be playing today. York seem to be a bit of a bogey team but hope that we still have enough to beat them.

I really wanted Ben to succeed but it's becoming increasingly apparent that he is just another pawn in this clubs set up. The increasing obsession with midfielders when the glaringly obvious need for a striker is beyond belief. Hoofing continuous high balls up to a 4ft nothing make believe forward in Morias just doesn't do it Ben. Yes we make pretty patterns in the middle but it takes a fortnight just to reach the oppositions box FFS. Once it's there we may as well give them the ball back and let them play out as we've no one to put the f..king between the posts.
Jesus Christ how many more weeks does it take for those in charge to realise it.
I realise that everyone else is in the market for a striker but come on Ben you've had months to sort this out, because playing Morias up there is endangering the lives of those that work in the burger bar.
Sick to death of hearing his feeble weak excuses in the post match drivel interviews and look forward to hearing us sign another midfielder during the week, to go along with the other 40 waiting patiently in the wings!!!
Absolute shite from top to bottom.

What to add about our lack of attacking quality this season? Then you receive a text from a work colleague in Barnet telling you his side have stock seven away this afternoon!

Rubbish today.

These forwards aren't exactly cheap and unproven but they are certainly not doing anything useful at the moment. No genuine pace threat and no aerial threat. It's so easy to defend against.

I mean, how long do we give it? There can be no mistaking that these are the managers players, playing the managers way of football, to the tactics that manager prescribes. Yet we haven't looked anything more than bang average at any point, and often look worse than that. We've 1 win from 6 games, and we could easily have lost that game too. This is probably the most open the league has been for years, no team that we have played yet have vaguely impressed or struck as title contenders, and yet here we are.

We could have played till next week and not scored.
Morias has become a figure of fun with fans laughing at him and Cox invisible.
Not sure where we go from here

6 wins since New Year’s Day in 27 league games say it all doesn’t it, if the owners were serious about us doing something this season they wouldn’t have signed a load of cheap crocked loanees, glad we’re paying out for a sporting director to get this players in, same old Dagenham. If we’re not top half end of September Strevs needs to be shown the door, if not we’re in serious trouble.

It just seemed our team didn't feel any interest on getting the job done yesterday , actually realised more now without Hess how much contribution he can make, we just had not one ounce of rhythm and a complete downer you wait all week and a wasted game comes along like that, of course seen it all before, always it returns, and can never understand how we let these dire teams come here and win as York just took their space and opportunity, six games in we really need a big shake up already, if we want to get out of this League surely the best start is to grab a tall No.9 striker, why has that not been a priority pre season, were to short there and no threat, its out there, its a juggle of the dice all the time!

In fairness to Strevens we have been recently taken over by new owners who are not going to do a " Wrexham" and throw loads of money at the club that is simply not sustainable. They appear to want to build the club from the bottom upwards which can be seen in signing a number of youngsters for a development team. It was only a few months ago that we were all worried that we would be unable to find new buyers and the club would simply disappear.
We also need to put things into perspective, we are not a big team in this division as can be illustrated by our very moderate league crowds at about 1500, also Forest Green bought Harry Cardwell from Southend for a reputed fee of £120,000 whilst also apparently at least doubling his wage.
The season has just started and we don't need a knee jerk reaction!

On the positive side I thought Akinola played well when he came on and looks a promising addition.
The set up in the first half left huge gaps in midfield which to be fair was sorted out at half time. I thought we played better second half but as others have said Gregor Cox and Morias are both small, lack pace and do not look like scoring in open play. Their goal keeper was barely troubled. Pereira and Rees are the only ones who look like scoring in all of the matches I have seen. We could be in for a hard time if Peraira’s injury keeps him out. I haven’t seen enough of Umerah and the lad who came on looks pacey. Something needs to change up front so might be worth a try if we can’t get/afford a proven goalscorer. York I thought looked quite decent , lots of energy, and probably worth their win on chances created.

It's a shame that people are already turning on Strevs.

But who would come in and replace him for the same money?

Our main problem is we are not scoring goals. We missed so many chances v Halifax, Southend and again yesterday. If we were scoring goals you'd be complaining about our leaky defence.

Lovely to see Tony Roberts at the game yesterday. He is right about the pink goalkeepers kit. I always have a theory that the team in the wanky kit deserves to lose 6-0 and often I am wrong and they win. Hopefully I am wrong with Justham. It would have been nice for him to be in traditional green, especially as our away kit looks so much like our L2 play off final kit.

This is now Strevs squad/team picked by him his staff, he is should not be free from criticism just because he once played for us. The season so far has been nothing short of absolute garbage against some really poor sides bar Rochdale, I’ve seen all the games so far and quite frankly he has to improve or enough is enough let’s not drag out the sacking of another poor manager if it turns out that way. Do we all want him to succeed, absolutely but not at the expense of another wasted season.

But who signed the strikers that aren't scoring the goals (I think the only goal any of our collective strikers have scored in an eighth of a season is the penalty at southend)? Who's setting the team up and issuing the tactics that are barely creating any chances for said forwards?

I want Ben to succeed - he's a thoroughly decent man and clearly has this club at his heart. But as DtD has said above, this isn't just a this season issue. I have no expectations of us fighting for the league title. I do however expect that we should be aiming for the lower playoff spots and not looking over our shoulders the whole time. This is why things need to pick up very soon.

Also, of all the things going wrong at the moment, I would hardly say the colour of the goalkeeper kit is a pressing issue. Or maybe it is to some of our fans, probably the same ones as those who told the team they were unlucky yesterday.

Some people really do take life too seriously.
