I've read some interesting comments in earlier threads, intimating that every single manager on the planet is identical, and that it is solely down to budgetary constraints as to where a club finishes.

For me, this has given helpful clarity to some doubts that I had been having.

Quite clearly those who feel that different people/managers;

- have different motivational qualities,
- are able to attract different kinds of players with the same budget,
- have a rough idea that character is equally as important as playing ability within a League 2 team,
- may fit one club, but not another

are clearly foolish fools.

I mean - come on, it's not as if two people with the same resources could produce different outcomes out there in the real world is it?!?

Contract extensions all round I reckon..!!

Except if you Manage a small Club in the arse end of nowhere where the cost of living is a lot less then with a team on the outskirts of one of the dearest places to live on Gods earth.

Don't know if you are aware but you get a better class of monkey for your peanuts in Accrington , Morecambe ,Newport and other God for shaken hovels

So the illuminating conversation I had with a Portsmouth supporters trust board member last week is not wide of the mark . There is a number of Clubs at our level over reaching themselves. So the fantastic example set by Accrington Stanley this season who have a smaller budget then us has in fact created 1.2 million pound of debt. Well done a Club who refused to die looks like they learnt nothing and if it was not for this bloke with good intentions they would be commiting financial suicide.

This is all very well and good luck to them but as Gretna, Newport, Mansfield,Torquey and Crawley have found out it's ok having this rich sugar daddy's but when they get bored all you have is a bitter taste.

Interesting What Mike Dashwood posted after the game yesterday about Dunne being the best player the pitch. Well even if we had over 100k a year to pay one player I doubt if we could ever afford for him to not kick a ball for months and allow him to sit in the stands. That's what one of our opponents have done this season a team I will remind you we have out performed for two seasons running.

You can moan, groan protest all you want but you can't run away from the harsh realities of life #itsallaboutfinancesstupid

You're right Sussex, I do recall reading about firms in the South East being concerned of the mass worker migration to Accrington and Morecambe. I heard whispers of them moving the 'Google Roundabout' to Guisely on a brick-by-brick basis as well.

I've also heard talk of those misguided individuals who take a job, with a long-term view of the rest of their career. Foolish fools.

Unless a job is for the highest wage going, they'd be better off staying in bed & signing on. I mean - come on, as if anyone else on the entire planet would even consider taking a job managing a football league club for a mere £80k a year.

We are very lucky that Wayne Burnett agreed to help us out in this way - hopefully Steve Thompson & his enlightened colleagues can get a few extra years on his contract fairly sharpish

Think there is more to staffing a football Team then the Manager and Coaches.

One of the main ingredients is players. This Club is crying out for bang average proven players. Now Players we have lost in the summer in the grand scheme of things are exactly that bang average at best.

Now a Player becomes available that interests for the sake of an arguement both us and Accrington Stanley.

Both Clubs offer him a two year deal for arguements sake at 1k a week. Now this player has a family and Children and if he chooses Accrington he can buy a house for less then 100k , if he chooses Dagenham he will need to put another 100k on that. What looks the most attractive and will offer him and his family an better quality of life.

I ask this question because I am in a similar situation myself. Last year I purchased a property in South Yorkshire for less then 70k a similar property where I live would cost in excess of 200k.

By relocating I have calculated that I will have a better quality of life as it will enable me to retire 10 years early. Now if I have made life changing decisions at my age do you not think that a relatively young footballer also has the same thoughts ,especially if he has a family to consider.
