Confirmed as new boss of Stevenage.

Thoughts?

I think he'll attract some good players there, especially strikers, they'd love to work with him.

Should do well there and definitely a step up from Westley imo.

Totally agree with Dagger83.
In terms of management experience whats he got ?
You cant call it a step up just cos you liked him as a player.
It is a step up in personality though,Westley is a horrible little man,Teddy seems alright.

Well a bloke whose worked under Ferguson, venables etc is bound to have learnt something wouldn't you say. It's all about opinions.

Im not disagreeing with that.Im saying that at this very moment Sheringham has no managerial experience in football at all. Where I do disagree with you is that you say rather flippantly that Sherringham is a step up from Westley. That has to be bollocks,you cant actually mean it surely ?

Yes Arnu I do honestly think given time he will be a step up from westley as a manager. But that is only my opinion. He may bring with him fresh ideas having played under the very best in the game or he could die on his arse and be sacked by christmas we'll just have to wait and see. Westley may well be a horrible little man as you stated in your posting, but I suspect you don't know him personally but have formed your own opinion on what you've gleened through various media coverage. Its all about opinions mate, no flippancy, just opinions.

Well Sherringham may well go on to manage real Madrid or Barcelona but right now,Westley is the better manager. Oh and I went to school with him and hes a ***** !!

I agree with those who don't see Sheringham as a particularly wise choice. He doesn't fit into the mould of former players like Hasselbaink who look like ready made managers, I reckon Teddy's going to have a tough job at Stevenage. Whether you liked Westley or not (Did anyone like Westley?), he was a great fit for Stevenage, a man whose methods for one reason or another worked down there and against other clubs - essentially he did well with what he had, albeit their budget has probably been a little higher than usual in recent seasons.

Stevenage have just released 13 players, their form last year wasn't setting the world alight despite reaching the play-offs and home and away I'd say they were probably one of the worst teams I've seen us play, which says a lot about this league in the process! Just because he's a name, I wouldn't expect them to be instantly challenging personally.

Still, if I'm wrong, come back and quote this 11 months time when Stevenage are champions, and I'll eat Arnu's hat that's still lying around from the Kevin Maher days.

Did Hasselbaink look like a ready made manager before Burton? He had one year leading a Belgian 2nd division side to 7th and from what I remember his playing style was all about being powerful and quick, you wouldn't necessarily describe him as an overly intelligent player as you would Teddy. Although, the myth that intelligent players make good managers is very subjective. I commend Stevenage for giving a British manager a chance as if he does well you can imagine his name will provide him with higher opportunities. Can't say I wish him the best of luck purely as I'm not particularly a massive fan of Stevenage but nevertheless will be an interesting appointment.

It's all subjective but I personally got the impression that Hasselbaink just 'fits' at a manager, someone you have an inkling will do well especially at a club like Burton where the groundwork was laid for him and all he had to do was carry it on essentially with one or two tweaks. Teddy has got a serious task on at Stevenage, and whilst he has contacts in the game, Westley will be a very hard act to follow - he just doesn't strike me personally as a potentially good manager just because of his name.

I could be wrong and be made to eat my words. We'll see.
