The issue is the 8 minutes with the ref stood with his finger in his ear and then 5 minutes added time in a first half with no injuries at all. Ball goes in the net, do you celebrate or wait two minutes for confirmation? It'll kill the game.
In no other game would that Lamela goal have been ruled out, yet the ref never even looked at it, took the anonymous VAR official saying no goal as read when even after detailed slow motion analysis there was no real indication why. Huh??
Is there no equivalent of the cricket "soft signal" (I think it is out so any doubt that is the call) or the rugby "any reason I cannot give a try?" to refer a dubious one upstairs. In tennis there is a call of in or out, then the affected player can ask for a referral, and the game is inherently stop start between plays. American football is stop start anyway so going off for a ruling on all scoring plays isn't the same issue.
Football eh? Bloody hell.

Ladies and gentlemen, I stand by my original comment above.

Absolute joke.
And this is to make the game better and overrule "clear and obvious errors"?

And after last night's dramas, I still stand by my original comment.
Get it right, or get it wrong immediately, VAR kills the emotion of the experience. This is true either way, Spurs 3rd goal was examined from 10 different angles before being official. Not as dramatic as 92 minutes in, but kills the stadium experience, the emotion of it all.

I'm torn over it. You want the correct decisions as much as possible so I'm for it in that sense, but we will soon be at the stage goals aren't celebrated for around 2-3 minutes after they're scored.
Very unlikely it will ever hit a league we're in. I don't know whether I like it or not so I'm glad we don't need to have the debate.
