The crisis at Hereford United

I don't suppose many will be interested but a big name in Non League may well go to the wall or at best sink even further down as Hereford are in severe financial trouble at present. Personally I have watched us play there many times with average success & enjoyed some hard fought games with a fairly partisan home crowd behind them but they are really suffering & support has dropped sharply although their last 2 home games have seen crowds of 2k plus. I hope they survive as it is a pleasant day out, a nice drive & the City itself has a lot to see, also the City has lost it's Horse Racing track not so long ago so it needs the Football Club to survive in some form.

They'll be back in some "AFC" form, just like Telford, Chester, Hlaifax, Hornchurch...

I am watching this situation closely, also that of Aldershot, Torquay and possibly Morecambe.

It cannot be any coincidence that clubs that get relegated from the Football League face administration followed by possible extinction. Is this purely down to mismanagement of funds, overspending or is this what will await us if we ever get relegated?

I think Hereford have now paid £40k of the £78k owed & struck an agreement for the remainder, interesting points raised by Auntie Merge, it looks as if Clubs probably overstretch themselves to stay in the FL, also inevitably when clubs drop into the Conference crowds go down ,thus revenue does as well, they do get a parachute payment for 1/2(not sure how long) years but still they lose much revenue.

Expelled from the Conference, Chester won the AGM cup.

As much as I dislike them over the game that we should never mention, I hate this to happen to a fellow club, although it seems like they got themselves in a right financial pickle.

A very sad business all round, whilst the fans who have boycotted HU games shouldn't really do so & should still be attending you can understand why they are - how some of the people who have 'run' HU have apparently been fit for purpose is a complete mystery, as always it is a salutary lesson in how not to run a Football Club which sadly seems to be repeated with alarming regularity.

Really sad end to a largely sorry saga for quite some time

A couple of years on & Hereford FC are thriving, 13 points clear of Evostik S&W ,unbeaten in the League & average crowds of 2,600+ inc 4,406 on BH Monday. Great to see them doing so well & at this rate Vanarama National Lge beckons in 3/4 years time.
