Yeah it was tucked away but a really nice set-up nonetheless. Brilliant to be back in a ground, even just for a pre-season friendly. In fairness, though, it was very entertaining as Great Wakering more than matched us for the majority of the game. Balanta was the difference, as he always is, and his quick-fire double killed the hosts before a trialist added a third shortly after.
As for trialists, the one I've just mentioned took his goal well but did miss another one-on-one and somehow didn't convert into an empty net at the far post. Kai Brown looked very sharp, if quite raw but to be fair he is 19. Once again we had Jack Connors and Will Wright featuring for us, alongside another trialist centre-half believed to be Marvin McCoy.
There weren't too many players who looked as individually brilliant, with Balanta the only one to particularly stand out. Maybe I'd add Phipps to that list because he looked very impressive in the first half. Aside from those two, the other players all looked okay; not great but not overly poor either. Doesn't really matter too much though because it was a friendly and there are four weeks until the meaningful stuff kicks off.
