Unbelievable reading when you have a look at the figures given for the club shop. Sales this year of £31.6k and purchases of £25.5k, and that is before the wages for club shop staff are attributed to the remainder of the gross profit (all £6k of it). Would love to stick up for whoever is calling the shots with that shop, but using that information it seems inexcusable to be performing that poorly. This year's figures aren't even a noticeable deviation from the previous either. Serious shake up needed there, unless there is a massive form of income attributable to that shop that isn't made clear (I know advance ticket sales are but they sell themselves, so it'd be silly to give that to the club shop).

The bar again only taking home £76.7k. I'm not an expert on how much they should make, but if we spread that across 23 home games in a year (so not even considering friendlies and the odd nights that it is open) that's only £3.3k in profit per home game. Would this figure be inclusive of the private rentals of the club house as well? If so then that £3.3k is going to be even lower when we look at match day operations. Not an expert in how much a pub should be taking on a game day, but I would expect that the Pipe Major averages more than that. Something again doesn't seem right when you look at the information given. Drinks should be making so much margin, especially at the prices they charge, so I'm not sure if the current operations for the bar should be seen as acceptable by anyone.

Working on an average of £3.30 a pint that`s 1,000 pints a home game sold so over all that`s not a bad profit on drink,The Pipe Major profits will be much bigger due to them selling food ,don`t know if you know that you can`t just go in there and just have a drink as there are only two tables you can sit on in doors or it`s outside even in the winter, all our club sale is beer so you can`t compere them.

I get that- sounds decent too. But what you have to realise is that I've taken the very best scenario of if that bar was only trading on competitive match days. Since then I've been told that the bar is actually open daily! Also the bar takings from private hire needs to be taken off. That £3.3k drops massively already. Cleaning costs and overheads also aren't taken into account, if we decide that they/any should be attributable to the bar.

A few things that jump out:

Around 50% of the loss can be assigned to depreciation, which in reality is an accounting adjustment with no cash impact. If you take cash to roughly equal profit (after excluding depreciation), then we've spent around £100k more than we received. While it's not a good thing, it isn't as bad as I got the impression things were.

On the balance sheet - a big swing between debtors and cash but I'd guess thats due to us being owed for Jones but not having received the cash.
Creditors doesn't look great, but it's not uncommon for businesses to delay payments around year end to prop up the cash balance - especially if you're waiting on a receipt.
The deferred income will most likely be season ticket receipts for this season.

Getting into the detail of the P&L side.
The loss of the FL money is going to be a problem if costs aren't cut accordingly.
The loss of the centre of excellence explains why we cut back on that after relegation.

The directors remuneration isn't very much really. I wouldn't touch the role for that level of pay.

I'm not sure what anyone expects from the shop. 20% margin seems reasonable to me. The costs of the purchases will be directly related to what was sold. Any unsold stuff should be sitting under stock on the balance sheet. We're never going to do massive volumes of stuff in a year.

The margin on the drinks is well over 50%. Seems pretty reasonable.

Cheers Adrian, good to have a dispassionate eye on these things.

As you say, the key is cutting our cloth - but the new consortium investment would be very useful.

Thanks Adrian for summing it up.

Think this will be our only year with a realistic chance of getting back up. After that cut what you need to and live within your means where required.

Or the fact you can sit outside if it's nice weather
Or that you can get food as well as drink

With regards to the bar I think the club either needs to seriously have a go at it by sprucing the place up a bit, doing food during the week and getting the word out that it's there (possibly not the best idea considering the competition at the end of the road), or only open for match days and booked events. They should probably then only stick to bottled beers (shit I know!!!) Because it seems there isn't enough custom to use the barrel before it turns. The grolsch is ******** shocking. It'll struggle to compete with the major and the easty, who both are busy and therefore im guessing will benefit from economies of scale, so maybe they Should streamline. A shame for the people who work there if that happened though.

this lot dont go for food its quality beer/ale.
outside is a valid point in the summer all 1 month of it whilst footy season is on. oh many used to meet at the bell pub aswell before games, more money lost there.

the bar and shop are run poorly anyone can see that.

No, just for a change instead of you just disagreeing with what anyone posts you tell us why it's well run and we'll disagree with you.
